MADTAG brings together independent designers, creators and photographers from around the world.
Each of them making work with a story behind it.
We go looking, and then we ask.
They work in studios and at kitchen tables, in cities on the other side of the world from us and in towns nobody has heard of. Some have shown in galleries. Some have never shown anywhere. What they share is that the work came from somewhere real — a morning, a street, a light they kept going back to.
There is no open submission form. Every person here was sought out, spoken to and invited, and we read the work before we ever discuss a format. It is a slower way to build a catalogue, and it is the only way the stories stay true.
They keep the copyright to their work. We licence it, for these formats, and we put that in writing.
Their name stays with the piece.
Their story stays connected to the work.
Their royalty is paid every time it sells.
A tag is a signature and a record.
It is the oldest thing an artist does — put their name on the work — and the plainest thing an archive does: write down whose it is. MADTAG means both, and keeps the paperwork, so that the name never comes loose from the piece.
None of it is clever. Provenance is a records problem, not a technology one, and the honest answer has always been documents kept in the right order.

The agreement
Every designer signs something simple: that the work is theirs, made by them, with any tools they used declared. It is the oldest instrument in publishing, and everything else rests on it.

The ledger
A royalty goes to a real bank account, every time a piece sells. A bank account belongs to a person — which quietly makes the payment itself the steadiest proof there is.

The archive
The working files, the layers, the dates. Kept for every design, so the story can be checked rather than simply believed.

The page
Every designer has a page of their own: their name, where they work, what they make, and what they earn from it. Open to anybody who wants to look.

The tag
And the part you can see. Their signature goes on the piece itself — the same mark, in the same place, on every piece they make. Not a card in the box that gets thrown away with the packaging.
Most of this you will never look at.
That is rather the point. The story holds whether or not anybody checks it.
Agents do the paperwork. People make the art.
We use AI here, and we would rather say so plainly than be caught being coy about it. It writes product data, builds mockups and keeps the queues moving. It does not make the work, and it never takes the credit.
Some of our designers use these tools inside their own process too, the way they would use a camera or a scanner. We ask them to say so, and it changes nothing about what they are owed.
The line is simple: no piece earns a name, a story or a royalty unless a person made it.
A screen forgets. A wall doesn’t.
Work that lives in a feed is only ever passing through. It is seen for a second, at an algorithm's discretion, by people who will not remember it by evening.
Printed, framed and hung, the same picture stops being content and goes back to being a picture. It stays in one place. It gets looked at slowly, by the same person, for years. It will almost certainly outlast the platform that introduced you to it — and the company that sold it to you.
That is the whole idea: take work that is disappearing into a scroll, and put it somewhere it can be lived with.
So what arrives on your wall is never just an image.
It is a moment someone noticed, shaped and chose to share.
