Calligraphy and Painting Party

A record of a working party, made at one. Kyōsai painted the figures and the outlines of the screens and scrolls; ten literati then filled those blanks in with their own work, each signed. The physician and calligrapher Nakane Hanrei wrote 'longevity' with an enormous ink-loaded brush. Fukushima Ryūho did the plum on the folding screen and Matsuoka Kansui the lotus, and both appear to be standing nearby pointing at their own contribution.
