The Story

A crow on a plum branch against a full moon, and almost nothing else. Kyōsai's crows are what he was most respected for in his own lifetime, and they are the opposite of the drunken public performances he was better known for.

The poem on the sheet: the plum accompanies their squawking forms, its fragrance assaults their feathers, shadows of the branches climb toward the study curtain. His seals read 'full moon' and 'painting demon in the midst of drink'.
