The Story
A cover for sheet music. Nuit Blanche was a poem by Jean Goudezki set to music by Désiré Dihau, a well-known bassoonist who happened to be Toulouse-Lautrec's cousin.
Lithography was a young technique and largely a commercial trade; Toulouse-Lautrec treated it as a medium and produced a great deal of what would now be called ephemera — posters, menus, song covers — with the same attention as anything else. Printed 1893.
