The Story

Known as Red Fuji. The mountain fills most of the sheet as a single wedge of red-brown, with snow still in the gullies at the summit, a band of ribbed cloud across a blue sky and a dark treeline at the base. There is nothing else in it — no travellers, no foreground, no incident.

The season is the short window between late summer and early autumn when the mountain genuinely takes on that colour at dawn. The natural grain of the cherry-wood block printed through along with the red, and it is visible in the finished sheet.
