The Moon-Viewing Promontory

The end of a moon-viewing party, seen from outside it. You are behind pine trees looking through a doorway. A figure with an elaborate hairstyle shows only as a silhouette against a paper screen, with the hem of a robe trailing into view. Someone else is still sitting inside near an instrument and a tray of blue-and-white ceramics.

The Japanese had held moon-viewing gatherings since the 700s. Hiroshige declines to show the party, the guests, or much of the moon — the whole composition is what you can see from the doorway.
