Breaching humpback
A humpback clear of the water, rolled onto its side, right pectoral fin thrown up and a curtain of sea falling from its flank.

Stand back a metre and pan slowly — even light helps
The whale is caught mid-breach, clear of the water from the tail stock forward and rolled onto its left side, head climbing towards the top right of the frame. A hard horizon of deep indigo swell runs across the lower third and a distant coastline sits flattened by haze into a grey-green band.
The rostrum rewards a closer look: the tubercles separate individually, each with its own highlight, and barnacle clusters sit along the leading edge of the pectoral fin and at the tip of the lower jaw. The credit reads National Marine Sanctuaries, the year is 2011, and a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration photograph is a US federal government work, so no royalty is owed on this print and none is paid.
